Wounded Warrior

The muse was with me today. Despite my jingoistic warmongering neocon ranting of late she hasn't deserted me.

*At least 3,438 Iraqis died by violent means during July (roughly similar numbers died in June and August), significantly more than the 2,973 people who died in the attacks of September 11, 2001. So it goes. And alot of those Iraqi were just as naked to the violence as the 2,973.

When will we stop praising the warriors, and praise the peacemakers?
I am just as guilty of this as you are, BTW.

ALMOST FORGOT,
I can see the feeling you put into the drawing, Fay-san. Beautiful.
Can I support the man, but oppose the war ;-)

Great work, sir.

Are you as sick of the "love the troops, hate the war" crowd as I am?

Dear Edo River rising,
I believe the Iraqis who "died by violent means" and continue to do so, have met untimely and violent deaths at the hands not of warriors, but of criminals and thugs....in a word, terrorists. Peacemaking is a laudable endeavor made largely possible by the efforts of those willing to create the necessary conditions for peacemaking....warriors. As counter-intuitive as this may sound, it is a fact of our existence. Peace, and I assume you mean the absence of war, is only possible with 100% participation. As long as there is one knucklehead willing to not go along, we'll need one warrior to deal with him. Even the great 60s hymm by Pete Seeger, and popularized by the Byrds, "Turn!Turn!Turn!", based on a passage from Ecclesiastes, recognizes the timeless ebb and flow of war and peace. Gandhi may have ended the British rule of India with non-violent civil disobedience, but what has followed has been 60 years of unrelenting violence and death.

So, dear Edo River, please try not to confuse thugs and murders with genuine warriors. Although you certainly did not mean your comments as such, let me none-the-less assure you I find it personally insulting.

Beautiful artwork!

On a side note, mdfay, that was very well said.

Go get 'em Tiger!

Hey, Edo River Rising . . . Who exactly are the "peacemakers"?

God help us and save us from such blind ignorance.

Great work Sir. I would like to meet your muse.

Mike,

The great Joseph Campbell once said, "Follow your bliss". When I look at this drawing I can see you are definitely following yours.
God, this is good.

BTW - Keep on with your rants. I enjoy them immensely.

Keep well.

No, your muse certainly hasn't deserted you, Mr. Fay. Simply beautiful.

And your response to Edo River Rising was very well said, indeed. And I don't consider your response to be a rant...more of a concise statement of facts. BZ!

A warrior does not purposely make war on non-combatants. It is a truism that many non-combatants die in war, but that is not a result of a warriors intent. A terrorist MAKES WAR on non-combatants in order to gain notice by civilians regarding their various political agenda. At his very best, a terrorist is nothing but a sadistic parasite with delusions of grandure, and at worst a murdering psychotic coward who would only fight for what he or she believes in if it can be down without actually facing their enemy.

Thanks for what you do. Your artwork is wonderful.
As to these people more-or-less praising and making excuses for terrorists and thugs, and putting you down, I say let them go to Iraq for awhile. I say the same thing of reporters and liberals who put down our fighting forces. Go over to Iraq and put your money where your mouth is. You'll find out that there IS evil in the world, and that contrary to current liberal thought, it all doesn't emanate from the U.S.!
